Drivers Education

A Picture of a Wrecked BugThe Safety Council of the Ozarks, in conjunction with Springfield Public Schools, offers behind-the-wheel instruction for the Driver’s Education Program to those students who are at least 15 years of age.

Each student that chooses to drive will go out with a partner and certified instructor during class periods for a total of six (6) hours of hands-on training. This learning time will count toward the required 20 hours of instruction required by law for obtaining an intermediate license at age 16. This is an excellent opportunity for new drivers to practice their driving skills with an experience driving coach.

Behind-the-wheel instruction is only available during driver’s education class time.

There is no fee for the classroom portion of Driver’s Education and the student is responsible for scheduling the class as part of their curriculum with their counselor. The cost of the Behind-the-Wheel instruction is $165 and must be paid to the Safety Council of the Ozarks prior to beginning the Driver’s Education class.
