Unintentional injuries are the fifth leading cause of death in this country and the leading cause of death for Americans under 45 years old. The Council believes that such incidents are not just random occurrences, but instead result form multiple conditions involving the interactions of machines and environments with people as they live, work, drive, and play. The Council views what some call “accidents” as unplanned, unwanted and nearly always preventable events.
- Community Education Department: Through our Community Education Department the Safety Council works to educate parents and children on various safety issues including safety belts and car seats, first aid and CPR. The Safety Council serves as the lead agency for the Springfield Safe Kids Springfield.
- Occupational Health & Safety Programs: The Council provides organizations with services that make cost-effective solutions to safety and risk issues. We work with our clients to help them achieve the maximum benefit from their safety and risk management resources. An essential part of the Occupational Department's responsibility to the client is to provide safety education for employers and employees.
- Traffic Referral Services: The Traffic Referral Services Department is designed to be a resource to those who need to comply with a court order or a license restriction based on an incident involving either an alcohol or non-alcohol related traffic ticket.
